Project Summary

The Cape Town Volunteer Center works with volunteers and community organizations in the Cape Town region. It has some 300 members to which it provides volunteers and support. Being in the information age, the Center is in need of additional ICT expertise.

Role of the Cyber-Volunteers

The role of cyber-volunteers is to help build a new web site for the Volunteer Center and train both staff and partner organizations in ICTs.

Partners

The CVTC, South Africa's first Volunteer Center (originally Voluntary Aid Bureau), was founded in 1979, as a project of the International Year of the Child. The present office then opened in 1980, initially run by volunteers. Today CTVC has 200 member organizations in the Cape Town area and offers a range of services to both organizations and individual volunteers. It motivates and develops effective volunteering through consultation, training, information and placement services for the benefit of all. Services include life skills workshops for youth on the concepts of volunteering and organizing community projects, a retired seniors volunteer program, an employer supported volunteering program, as well as a newsletter and a reference library.

The Center is ICVolunteers' representative in South Africa. A partnership agreement was signed between the two organizations in 2002.
